Wrinkles will eventually happen to us all. But if they develop prematurely, there are various strategies you can use to combat them. Below, we have some suggestions to help soften the appearance of deep wrinkles. Your skin imperfections may not go away completely, but treating yourself with any of the following nutrients is the safest and most affordable way to firm your skin (short of risky plastic surgery, that is).
Bet on Retinol
Retinol is one of the best ingredients available over the counter. This special form of Vitamin A gets included in almost every anti-wrinkle cream available, and can be obtained in higher concentrations at some dermatologist offices if you have a prescription from your doctor.
Why is Retinol so important? Because of its molecular structure, that’s why! When it gets absorbed into the skin, it breaks down into much smaller parts which are nutrient-rich and capable of penetrating the deepest layers of skin. In these deeper layers, the retinol nutrients work to repair damaged collagen and elastin, thereby plumping up damaged, sagging skin. The result is a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Hefty Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a fairly new but very important ingredient for reducing the appearance of deep wrinkles. It performs several important functions within your skin to prevent future aging and reverse current damage. For one, it helps block the toxic enzymes which break down collagen and cause damage. Furthermore, it acts as a powerful lubricant and emollient. This binds extra moisture into your skin, and increased hydration levels are great for combatting deep wrinkles.
Speaking of hydration, make sure you get enough water into your system each and every day! The importance of proper hydration cannot be stressed enough. A good rule of thumb is to take your body weight, divide it in half, and drink that many ounces of water daily. So if you weigh 150 pounds, then 75 ounces of water per day should be your goal.
Nourishing Peptides
Amino acids are the building blocks of many different tissues in the human body. Collagen especially needs amino acids in order to rebuild itself and keep your skin firm. Peptides are molecules which are both readily absorbed by the skin and can also be easily broken down into the amino acids which your collagen matrix needs in order to maintain skin elasticity. A daily moisturizer or an overnight anti-wrinkle cream with a heavy peptide infusion is great for skin which suffers from deep wrinkles.
Finding the Right Anti-Wrinkle Cream
If you can find an anti-wrinkle cream that contains any (or all) of the nutrients mentioned above, you’re on the right track. One of our favorites is Complexion MD. It contains hyaluronic acid, retinyl palmitate, and several different peptides. It moisturizes, prevents new wrinkles, and helps to reduce the appearance of deep lines on your face.
